Forklift Scoop Bucket: Types, Capacities & When to Use One
Loose material — gravel, sand, construction debris — doesn’t stack the way a pallet does, and lifting it by hand is slow. An Apex forklift scoop bucket solves that by turning your existing forklift into a loader for a few minutes at a time, without hydraulics, wiring or any permanent change to the truck.

What Is a Forklift Scoop Bucket?
A forklift scoop bucket is a scoop-style attachment built to load, transport and dump loose materials such as gravel, sand and debris. It slides directly onto standard forklift, telehandler or pallet forks, giving a fork truck loader-style versatility for handling bulk material without bringing in a separate machine.
How It Works
Apex’s scoop bucket installs in minutes with no adjustment to the forklift and no hydraulics required. Slide the bucket onto the forks and insert the pins behind the forks to lock it in place. Once loaded, the bucket releases with a single motion via the proprietary EZ-Release self-locking handle at the back — lowering the bucket to the ground resets it for the next load. A safety lock keeps the handle from tripping accidentally while the bucket is in transport.
Common Applications
- Gravel and sand handling
- Construction site cleanup
- Bulk material transport
- Landscaping operations
- Warehouse material movement
Scoop Bucket vs. Self-Dumping Hopper
A scoop bucket and a self-dumping hopper solve related but different problems. The scoop bucket is built for picking up loose material directly off the ground, the way a loader bucket would. A self-dumping hopper is built for storing and repeatedly dumping material that’s already been loaded into it — typically by shovel, chute or another piece of equipment. Neither one needs auxiliary hydraulics, but they’re not interchangeable: if you need to scoop material up off a yard floor, the bucket is the right tool; if you need to collect and periodically empty material at a fixed station, the hopper is.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a forklift scoop bucket need hydraulics?
No. Apex’s scoop bucket requires no adjustment to the forklift and no hydraulics or wiring changes. It slides onto the forks, locks in place with pins, and releases through a single-motion handle at the back.
